Granada in the summer of 2016. A surrealist painting is stolen during a burglary at a luxury hotel near the Alhambra, leaving its owner, the German Minister of Defense, with some major explaining to do. The painting’s trail is very bloody, stretching from the torture chambers of Franco’s dictatorship to the ministries of the Bonn Republic.

Lennard Lomberg’s mentor Peter Barrington tasks him with tracking down the painting for the minister, with support from the determined criminal investigator Sina Röhm. Yet it soon becomes clear to them that this is by no means just about the theft of a painting long believed to be lost, but about a related inheritance of tremendous political volatility. From the very outset of the investigation, Lomberg has to ask himself the painful question of whose side he is actually on. But time is running out – the search for the work of art soon turns into a hunt, and Lomberg himself goes from being the pursuer to the pursued …
