Sexual harassment is not about desire, but about power
At the beginning of the year, there was an outcry throughout the land, triggered by an article about FDP politician Rainer Brüderle that appeared in the weekly “Stern”. The outrage hasn’t let up since. Outrage directed at the sexual harassment of women in the workplace – not an isolated case, but rather a mass phenomenon. Studies reveal that two out of every three women has been harassed at some point.
This book is a defense of women and everything they have achieved to this point. The initiator of the outcry, Anne Wizorek, describes how she instigated an uprising on the Internet; a union member offers some straight talk; Labor Secretary von der Leyen speaks out in favor of American “political correctness”. And a glimpse beyond Germany’s borders shows that there is another, better way.
This EMMA book edited by Alice Schwarzer combines current texts with texts from the 1970s and ‘80s that are still disturbingly relevant.
