An extreme mountaineer gone missing, two mysterious murders in the Upper Venosta Valley and a race against time: In their ninth case, South Tyrol’s most popular duo investigates at dizzying heights.
The who’s-who of the international climbing scene have gathered in Sulden, on the icy north face of Mount Ortler. An Italian and an Iranian, the best female ice climbers in the world, are competing to set a new record. Meanwhile, Commissario Grauner and his Neapolitan colleague Saltapepe have other problems: a dead body has been found down in the valley; Matthias Lechthaler, the head of the local mountain rescue team, is lying in the village gym, a pitchfork stuck in his chest. While the investigators are gathering evidence, a disaster is brewing up at the summit. A thunderstorm rolls in, and the Iranian athlete never makes it to the mountain hut. The next morning, her ice axe is found at the edge of a crevice – and another dead body in her hotel. Grauner and Saltapepe soon suspect that they have more to fear than just the untamed forces of nature on the South Tyrolian peaks.
