The King Is Dead – Long Live the King!
Rio Reiser wrote German music history. As the singer and songwriter of the band Ton Steine Scherben, in the 1970s, with songs like “Keine Macht für Niemand” (“No Power for Nobody”) and “Macht kaputt, was euch kaputt macht” (“Destroy What Destroys You”), he delivered the soundtrack for the awakening of an entire generation. In the ’80s, as a solo artist, with hits like “König von Deutschland” (“King of Germany”) and “Junimond” (“June Moon”), he suddenly became known to the public at large. From Reinhard Mey and Nena to Jan Delay, Ferris MC and Clueso – new musicians are constantly covering his songs, finding inspiration in the poetry of his lyrics, the tenderness, the power and creativity of his language. In his autobiography, he talks about his conflicts as a political person, artist and lover. A gripping, liberating and fresh life story – with an updated preface by Rocko Schamoni.
“Rio is the only German singer I’ve ever admired. He wrote the most beautiful German battle and love songs. He was a true romantic and sang what there is to get out of the German language.” Herbert Grönemeyer
