“For me, he’s the greatest American songwriter. No other musician has given me deeper insight into the American soul. Without Bob Dylan’s work, many of my songs never would have been written,” says Wolfgang Niedecken.
There probably isn’t another German musician with as close a relationship to Bob Dylan as him. For decades, he has shaped German-language rock music with his band BAP and as a solo musician while regularly engaging with Bob Dylan’s work: He has published numerous cover versions of Dylan songs, recorded an audiobook version of Dylan’s “Chronicles”, retraced Dylan’s life in the ARTE production “Bob Dylans Amerika,” and met his role model in person several times. In this book, Wolfgang Niedecken gives a lively account of these meetings and the intersections between his own work and the inspiration he found in the music and texts of the Nobel laureate Bob Dylan.
