A dead sculptor, fateful apricots and a divided village: In his tenth case, Commissario Grauner follows the trail of white gold from a Tyrolean village to New York.
The rocks in front of the marble quarry glow in the first rays of the August sun. But Commissario Grauner only has eyes for the gruesomely mangled corpse at his feet. The victim was a sculptor in Laas, a small village in the Vinschgau Valley where marble has been quarried and shipped all over the world for centuries. On the night of the murder, blocks of marble in the valley were smeared with the flesh of apricots, which are considered a regional delicacy. Prosecutor Belli takes the opportunity to drive to the scene of the crime to taste them - and promptly suffers symptoms of poisoning. How are the incidents connected?
Meanwhile, Ispettore Saltapepe and Silvia Tappeiner are traveling through the USA and enjoying their time together. When the traces lead them to an architect in New York who is said to have imported the South Tyrolean marble, the romantic tranquillity comes to an end.
