Fear of foreigners, xenophobia – murder in a heated atmosphere
Deep winter in Småland: The January days in southern Sweden are short, dark and bitterly cold when the mutilated body of a woman is found under the sheet of ice covering Lake Tofta. The two very different inspectors Ingrid Nyström and Stina Forss take on the investigation. It soon becomes clear that the murder victim not only had excellent connections to Växjöer city hall but also a well-kept personal secret. When, a few days later, a young father is maliciously killed in the snow-covered woods, Nyström and Forss find themselves up against a complicated web of lies, betrayal and violence – and are gradually forced to admit that this case is much bigger and more threatening than they initially assumed.
