Southern Sweden 2005: a hurricane devastates entire swathes of land, cuts off villages and farms from the outside world for days and claims 17 lives. The farmer from Torstensson’s farm also dies in a tragic accident on the night of the storm. When the farmhouse burns to the ground ten years later and a body is found in its smouldering remains, impaled and burnt beyond recognition, inspectors Ingrid Nyström and Stina Forss start their investigations. The mysterious evidence takes the two very different women to Norwegian tourists, harvest labourers from eastern Europe and a resocialisation project for former serious criminals. While Nyström and Forss follow the trail into the past, a young injured woman is on the run from a merciless criminal. Deep in the forest of Småländ begins a fateful chase that also takes the investigators to their limits.
